My love of words draws me to quotes. These are two of my favorites about the importance of parents reading to their children:
One of the greatest gifts adults can give - to their offspring and to their society - is to read to their children. ~Carl Sagan
If you want your children to be bright, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be brilliant, read them even more fairy tales. ~Albert EinsteinOnce we learned how to read ourselves, birthday and Christmas gifts were usually books. My greatest treasure was my library of Golden Books, collected one at a time.
Golden Books, a Random House property, started with a simple brand promise: to offer quality books for children that would be available at a price nearly everyone could afford (25 cents), and sold where ordinary people shopped. That's fantastic!
Now in it's 69th year, Golden Books (aka Little Golden Books) is still going strong. I
If you don't have time to read, you don't have time to write. ~Stephen KingDid you read Golden Books growing up? What were some of your favorite titles?

I loved my Golden Books! I always read to my boys and when Brian was learning to read, he would read to his brother (3 yrs younger) or we'd read a story together. Cherished moments.
ReplyDeleteI remember those! i also had a bunch for my son when he was younger.
ReplyDeleteLove this post! I loved Golden Books when I was a child and I gave a set of them to some of my neighbor's kids who aren't well off for Christmas. I've loved books since I was a small child and the stacks and stacks and even more stacks on the floors, shelves and any other flat surface of my office show that I still love them.
ReplyDeleteI loved those books when I was a kid. Glad they're still around.
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to see Golden Books among my grandchildren's collections. I read from them often to my own kids. Treasured books.

Oh man!! I still have a ton of these! My daughter has loved them just as much as I did. Great post.
ReplyDeleteI know I had a few, and I remember the Pokey Little Puppy best.
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting via the A-Z hop. It's nice to 'meet' another writerly person on Blogger. Have a nice weekend! (I'm stop #879)
I remember these books. Bet my mom still has them in a box in her basement. And I love the quote from Stephen King. Classic!
ReplyDeleteI have a collection of Golden Books that I've carted around for years. In fact, the "Band- Aid" themed book still has the original band- aid that came with it. Which is amazing, given how likely I was as a child to put band- aids on all the nice furniture in the house ;)
