T is for Too Close to Quit

Warning: cop-out post alert.

That's right. I'm not good about writing on the weekends and today is Saturday. Amazingly, I have stayed 100% compliant with the A - Z Blogging Challenge (on this blog). I say amazingly because, since I escaped from the rigid corporate bonds of my previous existence I've become commitment phobic. So much so that I almost didn't participate in this fun challenge at all. The fact that the challenge had no strict 'rules' attracted me, so I jumped in. See, that's another thing I avoid, rules. No commitments and no rules please. Call it overcompensation or whatever, but I've had enough of those to last a lifetime.

My drive and competitive nature has not waned in retirement, however. Once I start something I will finish it. And I started this challenge so I will finish it.

Today is the day for a T-post. And, as I mentioned, it's Saturday. So my T-post is about the fact that I'm too close to quit. That's it. No more wisdom or insight. Just that I will continue to plug through until I reach Z.

That is next Saturday, right???

  3. It's the way I feel too - a case of 'almost there' - but the letter V has me stumped at the moment :-(

  5. In some ways, I'm the same. When there's too much pressure, it feels too much like a job. No thanks. I blog for fun.

However, I don't sign up for things unless I know I can follow the rules. I have to make sure I can do whatever I'm supposed to do.

    I'm funny that way. :-D

  6. Good for you, Langley. I didn't even sign up but I'm not stopping now. One more week and this feels GOOD!! I'm committment phobic and LOVE the lax rules freelancing offers, so I'm with you on this, but we "done gooood" ...all the A to Z-ers have, YAY!

  7. At first the lack of rules left me feeling slightly overwhelmed, but then I embraced the freedom and enjoyed the experience. I'm so glad I participated it lead me to a lot of new blogs to read, my only problem now is I can't keep up with reading all the wonderful blogs I've found.

  8. Like you, I was commitment phobic too, so I really had to think about joining this challenge. It's been fun getting to know so many people here. I'm glad I did it, but I think it will be a while before I join another challenge – maybe after the grandkids are old enough to not interrupt me throughout the day. http://myheartblogstoyou.blogspot.com/2011/04/traumatization-of-third-grader.html

  10. Woohoo! Congratulations on sticking with it. It's hard for me to stay on track for a whole month too so I totally get it. Great job. Can you believe we're almost done already? lol

  11. I know what you mean. I'm not so much commitment phobic, but the minute I'm told to do something after I've decided I want to do it, I no longer want to do it because it has stopped being my idea. But, I wanted a reason to post regularly and this seemed to be a way I could do that without, as you pointed out, having too many restrictions. Sometimes I've wanted more than one day off, but I've managed to stick to it, which is more than I have at other times.

  12. Gah, I have completely shied from challenges that have too many rules. Keep it simple please! My biggest worry with this challenge was forgetting to start it. But I had a note pinned on my desktop and bunch of friends blogging about it so I remembered and started off with a nice bang.

  14. I am not good at all with writing at the weekends, so the only way I knew I could keep up to date was to get as far ahead of myself as possible.

I wrote my Y post today, just have Z to go now :)

  15. I hear you. when I fell behing on S, T, U, and V, I was tempted to just stop altogether. I'm glad I stuck it out. Still need some ideas for Z though. Lol.
