Totally appropriate for today. My Q-word is quagmire.
Q came at the right time because I feel like I'm stuck in a quagmire, figuratively speaking of course.
The Encarta Dictionary defines quagmire (noun) as 1) swamp: a soft marshy area of land that gives way when walked on and 2) an awkward, complicated, or dangerous situation from which it is difficult to escape.
The word quagmire is used more colloquially around here. Instead of using quagmire to describe an awkward, complicated or dangerous situation we use it more to mean a dilemma, a pickle, a predicament, a jam, a quandary.
The reason I feel like I'm stuck in a quagmire is that I've been pushing out these A-Z Blogging Challenge posts the day of. No preplanning, no scheduling, no rough drafts. And things are starting to get busy. I've picked up a few new clients that expect me to produce (gasp!).
I started this challenge and I intend to finish it so I find myself in a quagmire.
Footnote: I purposely refrained from writing about Glenn Quagmire here. If I open that subject, I'm afraid I'll get in a real quagmire.

I too am writing these A to Z blogs the day of. I had a list of topics planned out back in March but most of them were swapped out at the last minute for something else.
ReplyDeleteBefore I signed up, I made a list of potential topics for each letter, just to see whether I thought it would be possible to complete the challenge. Since then, I've changed a few of them at the last minute, but I'm glad I have my original list.
ReplyDeleteAll I have is a list with the word of the day. Sometimes I write the day of, others I have to schedule. But it has been working for me so far. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a morning person, so it helps me to pre-write my posts at least the day before. Some of them I've left until the day of, and it's a bit harder for me to do. Still, with a little flexibility and ingenuity, I've hung in there!

ReplyDeleteThe A to Z six days a week CAN make one feel like she's caught in a quagmire. I had to back out when my daughter had surgery.
I think there's nothing wrong with posting an "alphabet" letter whenever one feels moved upon to do so, or with dropping out of the daily challenge if necessary. In my book, life takes precedence.

I tend to do the letters as I get ideas. Right now I'm getting to all the letters I've done beforehand so now I'll probably doing the rest the day before.

I've always loved the way this word explodes from the mouth and wish I had occasion to use it more often...lol. And I can certainly relate to your quandry, (another favourite!)about posting for the challenge every day. My African animal alphabet means I have to come up with ideas for the odd letters like Q an U and that is definitely a challenge!

I love the word quagmire. I know about pushing though the posts and then trying to visit new places and old place AND get real work done. LOL

Work is getting busier and the A-Z is starting to feel like an obligation instead of something I look forward to doing every day. Even the ideas that I did pre-plan, I don't have the passion to write about the day of, so I change course. I'm in this all the way,,,and will follow you to the end for support. We can't back down from this challenge, even if it means putting up one sentence!

ReplyDeleteI made a list of possible topics early on, but have changed quite a few of them as I've gone along. I've tried to write the forthcoming week's blogs at the weekend, so as not to get into a panic the night before, but that hasn't always worked either. And I still don't even have possible topics for some of the U-Z topics, so I guess next week could end up being a real quagmire!

I'd be so dead if I'd tried to do these posts the day of--because I've had too many other responsibilities (and vacation to Ireland). It helped me figure out how to set a few up in advance and schedule them for posting. Love learning new things. =D

Quagmire is another awesome Q word. Yeah, I've been finding myself a little bit busier than usual with the A-Z Challenge. I wound up having to prepost a few posts ahead of time because I might've gotten called in for jury duty this week. That didn't happen, but it does help to plan ahead for things.
